Moore
Ergonomics specializes in workplace safety and injury
prevention. Our certified ergonomists will make recommendations
on how to reduce the number of workplace injuries.
We will also educate employers and employees in proper
posture and body mechanics that enable everyone to
get their job done safely and efficiently.
Our team
consists of physical therapists and certified ergonomic
assessment specialists (CEAS). We are experts
in human motion, and are trained to detect even
the most minimal “unnatural” motion of
an individual that could lead to repetitive strain
and injury, whether in the office, on the manufacturing
floor or the loading dock.
We start by conducting
a thorough analysis of how
your company works.
If you have OSHA logs or other
reporting measures, we can help you evaluate and
interpret them to
analyze where you may have specific needs to
address. We
then evaluate and assess how your employees
go through the activities of their workday.
After
we complete our workplace assessment, we develop
an Ergonomic Plan with recommendations
to improve
the work environment.
What is an ergonomic
plan?
An ergonomic plan is an approach that is
developed to address the needs of the company
and the
safety of the work force. It may be anything
from a
single work site analysis or lecture, or
include the development
of an ergonomics team consisting of a variety
of departments that all come together to
provide continuity
of your ergonomic goals. The plan will
always include specific recommendations addressing
work conditions
that put employees at risk for injury.
Are
ergonomic interventions expensive?
Worksite evaluations and modifications
are not necessarily expensive. Recommendations
are quite
often easy adjustments
that can be implemented with existing
equipment.
Typically it is as simple as adjusting
the height of a computer desk or computer
keyboard,
teaching
the employee how to sit properly or to
incorporate “micro-breaks,” or
1-minute stretches, into their work routine.
Why
would your company benefit from an ergonomic
plan?
According to the latest Bureau of Labor
Statistics, Work-Related Musculoskeletal
Disorders (WMSDs)
are now the leading cause of workday
injuries and
workers' compensation costs.
- WMSDs account for 34% of all
lost workday injuries and illnesses
- WMSDs account for $15-$20 billion
in workers' compensation costs
- Direct and indirect costs of
WMSDs
(workers' comp plus lost production)
add up to as much as $60
billion a year in expenses and lost productivity
- If you have $100,000 in workers'
compensation costs and your company works
on a 10% gross margin
you will have to produce $1 million
in net revenue to cover it
Net-net: A safe
environment for your
employees with education in how to avoid
WMSDs will help
reduce the number of days lost to injuries
and workers compensation costs while
boosting productivity and
employee morale.
Who is at risk of an
ergonomic injury?
Employees whose jobs require repetitive
motion – such as prolonged working at the
computer, lifting heavy objects,
using a great deal of force or continuously
working in an awkward position – are most
at risk.
These employees
are at risk of developing
Work-Related Musculoskeletal Disorders
(WMSDs) and would
benefit, along with their employer, from
an ergonomics program.
